Fox Confirms Its Spot at the Upfronts for 2023

As we get closer to Upfront season, we now see an old stalwart, Fox Corp, confirm it will host an in-person Upfront event from the Manhattan Center on Monday May 15th. And this time, they promise it will be an in-person event- not like last year, where the expected live presentation morphed into a mostly pre-recorded video. Entertainment attorney with Blake & Wang P.A, Brandon Blake, shares what we know.

This means they will present on the same day as NBCUniversal, and alongside industry giants like Disney (May 16th), Warner Bros Discovery, and even Netflix (both May 17th) as they enter the ad game. To date, the only expected presentations we won’t see will be from CBS/Paramount, who have announced they will take a different approach with more intimate, smaller presentations privately arranged for this year.

What Can We Expect?

Fox, which did remarkably well out of this year’s Super Bowl event too, will likely give some time to the entirety of its portfolio, including its FAST platform, Tubi. However, will we see a Fall schedule this round? In their last Upfront, this was most notably missing. Additionally, they cut several high-profile renewals (think 911 and The Resident) very close to the wire last year. This year, we’ve seen them start moving a lot earlier, with some anticipated renewals already greenlit, so… maybe? For now, they’re playing that card close to their chests.

Fox is also working notably off-cycle at the moment, favoring a script-to-series model over the classic production of pilots. So for now it remains a little unpredictable as to what they will bring to the table with their new format and new venue. However, no doubt we will see the best they have in their portfolio put on show to coax a softer advertising market to their stable.

It’s good to see an ‘old favorite’ confirmed for the shifting landscape of the Upfronts. For now, we can only wait with anticipation to see what they will bring to the table.
