Who will we see snag SAG nominations?

Image
With 2020 having brought one of the most unpredictable, strangest years for movies there has ever been, the Oscars feel like an uncertain entity for many this season. As always, SAG Awards nominations (and wins) are expected to have a heavy hand in predicting who will see their Oscar campaigns succeed, so BLAKE & WANG P.A  one of the best entertainment law firms San Francisco are watching the SAG Awards process gear up with much interest. Who can we expect to see nominated? While nothing is ever certain, it’s highly unlikely Chadwick Boseman in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Anthony Hopkins in The Father will be snubbed. That’s quite an interesting pairing, given one will be (very regrettably) posthumous, and the other has never won a SAG award.  The field is a lot more open on the women’s side. There are probably a dozen stellar performances that each deserve a slot. Probably the only safe bet currently is Frances McDormand’s Nomadland performance, which has shone with the critic

Despite rigorous on-set precautions, LA ‘second wave’ surge may lead to (temporary) halts on filming

There’s no secret that the rigorous safety protocols being used on sets have had a positive effect in creating safe working environments for thousands in the film industry. Sadly, in the face of an America that hasn’t performed as well generally, there still may be good reasons for a temporary pause in LA-based filming as the second wave crashes over us. BLAKE & WANG P.A Entertainment Attorney Los Angeles investigate further. The appeal has come from the overwhelmed Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, urging productions in the Southern California area to consider focusing on low-risk productions or pausing filming for a few weeks. This comes as the area faces a catastrophic surge in ‘second wave’ COVID-19 cases, where hospitals face oxygen and bed shortages.  This is fully supported by both SAG-AFTRA and the Producer’s Guild, who, in conjunction with key advertisers, have urged that commercial production be put on ice for a few weeks. Most major studios and streamers a

International Oscar Entries for 2021 are Bold and Original

Image
This year we see 4 bold and remarkable International Film Feature entries for the Oscars. As of yet, there is no clear frontrunner, and it’s probably unwise indeed to try and predict one in this weird Oscar season of dark horses and indie productions. The entertainment Lawyer BLAKE & WANG P.A has all the info you need. Possibly the wildest- and the most deviant- of the nominations belongs to India’s Jallikattu. It has impressed critics to the core, despite an on-paper B-movie setup in which a buffalo rampages through a village. Yet we see a crazy progression of figures bring petty jealousy, senseless violence, and sheer incompetence to life in a dazzling reminder of man’s dubious status as the most savage animal of all. Bosch-like cinematography pairs off with impressive direction to create a wild-card that seems improbable on paper, but delivers delight on the screen. It’s paired against Never gonna snow again , a Polish entry in which we see a fascinating and compelling blend

COVID-19 relief bill set to provide help for previously neglected entertainment industry employees

While the promised $15 billion in aid to go to exhibition theaters and live venues will probably be the biggest takeaway for the entertainment industry from the newly-passed aid bill, it’s not the only positive. We’re finally seeing some unemployment relief that could help hard-hit individual members of the entertainment community. BLAKE & WANG P.A has the information you need.  Freelancers finally recognized The bill has finally taken note of what earlier pandemic-related relief has not. Expanded eligibility for unemployment benefits. This includes allowing those with ‘mixed’ employment (i.e traditional and freelance) to access these services at all. This form of employment disproportionately affects some areas of the entertainment industry, including those in the music industry. It’s partially thanks to the hard work of the Recording Academy and SAG-AFTRA that we’ve seen them included at all, and all due kudos to these entities for pushing for inclusivity. Intriguingly, it’s a
