Hulu on Disney+ is Officially Here

While the Hulu on Disney+ Beta bundle has been live since last year, we have officially reached the point of full integration. Intriguingly, much of the executive focus on the new bundle has been around the technical advancements needed to unite the two platforms. You could take a look at entertainment lawyer Brandon Blake, from Blake & Wang P.A., looks in more depth at the united offering.

Technical Advancements

While few viewers are likely to know (or care, frankly) about the backstage technology that powers their viewing experience, Disney executives have been keen to hammer home the potential for happier, healthier subscriber engagement and retention with the new tech shift. They have gone as far as to call it the “most extensive technical advancement” since launch. At this point, it is clear that they are also hoping a more advertiser-appealing platform with better metrics can be leveraged to boost their highly successful live sports streaming experience through ESPN+ as well.

Full Integration

Behind this new content management system, which, despite the rhetoric around customer satisfaction and personalization, is clearly intended to offer more appealing ad inventory delivery, users can expect full and immediate access to Hulu content. For those subscribers who are not taking advantage of the Hulu bundle, Hulu shows will still be displayed. They will be able to sign up and immediately watch Hulu content if they wish.

While Phase 3 of the bundle rollout is officially underway already, there is a marketing campaign planned for the combined app, building on the initial interest we saw during the Super Bowl earlier this year. Keen-eyed viewers will also notice that the Disney+ app logo has had a facelift to better incorporate Hulu into their overall branding.

Disney is clearly leaning heavily into the bundled service space in a bid to further expand and consolidate their streaming offerings. With one in three subscribers having watched content from both services during the Beta phase, it will be interesting to see how many take advantage of the new bundled offering over the coming months.
