Neon’s Longlegs Earns a New Record as the Specialty Box Office Thrives

After a spectacular performance at the specialty box office, Longlegs has officially become Neon’s highest-grossing film. And this is far from the only small-scale box office success we’re seeing at the moment, either. Brandon Blake, our entertainment lawyer Los Angeles with Blake & Wang P.A., has these good news stories to share.

A New Record for Neon

Longlegs has officially surpassed Oscar-winner Parasite ($53.37M) as Neon’s highest-grossing box office release, with a cume of $58.6M in its third week. It also takes the title of highest-grossing R-rated horror for 2024 and the highest-grossing horror film of the last decade, knocking A24’s Talk to Me out of the top spot. Notably, it’s also currently sitting at the No. 5 spot at the general domestic box office, quite a success for an indie movie, even on wide release. Longlegs has played on approximately 2,500 screens across the country.

Other Specialty Box Office Successes

The Fabulous Four has also been performing well for Bleecker Street. It is looking to gross about $1M over 1,045 screens in its first release weekend and is currently No. 8 on the general weekend box office list.

Didi, the Focus Features release that shone at the 2024 Sundance Festival, also grossed $200k over only 5 locations, making it one of the top three limited openings we’ve seen this year. In addition to a stellar score on Rotten Tomatoes, it is showing great traction with audiences. It will expand by a further 50 theaters next weekend. The Tamil-language crime thriller Raayan managed to squeak onto the domestic box office list in the No. 10 spot, so there’s fantastic representation from the indie market.

With some strong holdovers for Sing Sing, Widow Clicqout, Oddity, and Touch, the specialty box office is looking more vital than ever at the moment, and that’s always something to celebrate.
