Wicked Brings Some Pep Back to the Box Office
In some great news for a rather lackluster fall box office, Wicked: For Good has turned in a successful opening weekend, one of the best box office openings ever for most of its stars, including the director and producer. We have Blake & Wang P.A.one of the top entertainment attorney in Los Angeles, USA, Brandon Blake, with more.

Ironically, Wicked:
For Good is turning in a performance that the first film could only dream
of. It’s also the second biggest North American opening of this year, lagging
behind only A Minecraft Movie. Its debut was officially $150M
domestically, with a global debut of $226M.
It’s a testament to the
“buzzy” chatter that the film has generated, alongside a very smart marketing
campaign that they have stuck to consistently. With a large and very dedicated
fan base, they’ve hit all the right notes, including teamups and appearances on
programs outside of Universal’s own brand. As the newly coined “event cinema”
goes, this one was a win.
IP or Bust
What its successes
highlight, however, is that durable, appealing IPs or, alternatively, original
films that can really amp up the FOMO, are what’s moving box office numbers at
present. Notably, Wicked: For Good was only tracking at $130M, so it has
surpassed all projections at this point, as well as beating out its ten-time
nominated, dual Oscar-winning predecessor.
While the box office
total for this weekend was just short of $190M, lagging a little behind last
Thanksgiving, it’s certainly some much-needed reinvigoration. On the side of
smaller films, Rental Family did a respectable $3.2M, not bad at all for
a very niche film, and in line with expectations. Otherwise, Now You See Me,
Now You Don’t took the second-place spot behind Wicked, with Predator:
Badlands in third.
Let’s hope to see this
new box office momentum carry on into the rest of the holiday season.
