Netflix Still Dominates Nielsen Streaming Charts
Netflix still reigns from on high, at least according to Nielsen’s streaming data for the week of February 28th through March 6th. This will be the third straight week in the period they’ve managed to keep solid control of the charts, with Inventing Anna holding the top spot for all three weeks. Entertainment lawyer with Blake & Wang P.A, Brandon Blake, breaks the chart data down.
Shondaland and Beyond
Other top Netflix features include Worst Roommate Ever, Vikings: Valhalla, and Love is Blind. Inventing Anna clocked in with 1.2B minutes of streaming, with Roommates and Vikings sitting between 1B and 1.1B, and Love is Blind netting 998M minutes.
This is a slip of around 44% for Anna, but still enough to stay strong in the Number 1 spot. Interestingly, it’s also sitting happily across a broad range of demographics, with 82% of viewership evenly distributed between the 18 to 34, 35 to 49 and 50 to 64 demographic categories. This well could be the reason for its continued chart domination.
Vikings, on the other hand, leans decidedly older, with over a third of viewers nestled in the 50-64 band. Roommates, on the flip side, is pulling heavily on the 18-49 demographic.
Nielsen’s statistics draw from viewing over Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, Netflix itself, and Hulu.
Encanto Breaks its Streak
Disney’s dazzling theatrical feature, Encanto, has finally broken its 10-week billion streak, falling to 864 million minutes. It’s unclear if the announcement that it will return to theaters, too, has had any effect on streaming viewership. We could also see a final uptick for the movie in weeks to come as its Oscar coverage boosts interested eyes.
NCIS, Criminal Minds, Pieces of Her, A Madea Homecoming, and Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel round out the Top 10 chart for this week.
Clearly Netflix are still managing to ‘read the room’ with their offerings, keeping a variety of demographics engaged in their streaming properties and offering ‘a little of something for everyone’ to enjoy. Will this change in the coming weeks? We’ll be on hand to keep you up-to-date.
