The Latest Streaming Ratings Are In

It’s that time of the month again- Nielsen’s latest round of streaming ratings are in. It’s always interesting to see what’s hot (and what’s not) on the streaming charts, so Brandon Blake, our entertainment lawyer Los Angeles in the know from Blake & Wang P.A. is here to unpack this week’s top streaming titles.

You Remains on Top, but The Four Seasons Has a Strong Start

Netflix’s comedy, The Four Seasons, opened on streaming this week, and managed to rack up 1.3B minutes of watch time, even without a full week to attract viewers. This took it straight into second place.

However, it was still beaten out by You for the number 1 spot, which was also the top performer in the prior set of Nielsen ratings. Now in its final season, the thriller managed to claim an outstanding 1.78B viewing minutes, 7% higher than the last week.

Series High for Andor, and Handmaid's Tale Still Grips

Andor also brought Netflix a second consecutive series best for the Nielsen charts, piping its own record from the prior week with 821M viewing minutes. This was a gain of around 14%, or 100M minutes week-on-week. Intriguingly, the audience demographics also swung a little younger, with 23% of the audience now below the age of 34.

At 612M minutes, The Handmaid's Tale managed to stay in the Top 10 for originals for its final season, although another returning favorite- The Last of Us- topped the list with 827M minutes for Max, a slight drop on the prior week.

On the movie side, Netflix’s German thriller, Exterritorial topped the chart with 767M viewing minutes, followed by Havoc, another Netflix title. Third place went to Another Simple Favor at 399M minutes.

While Nielsen’s streaming ratings only cover viewing on TV sets, so it can’t give insight into PC or mobile-based consumption, it still gives a fascinating picture of what’s captivating US audiences on streaming currently.
