Who is Making a Billion in This Year’s Box Office Takings?

With the domestic box office now approaching $3.7B, 23% higher than 2024, it’s time to look at who is leading the pack when it comes to box office earnings. We have Brandon Blake, entertainment attorney Los Angeles at Blake & Wang P.A., with the facts and figures.

Disney Studios Has Passed $1B

To no one’s particular surprise, Disney Studios is leading the majors, with a total of $1.1B in the kitty. In the year that brought us not only the highly successful live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch as well as the Captain America: Brave New World Marvel release, that was pretty much predicted. Even the releases that didn’t see particular box office success, like Thunderbolts and the notably less successful live-action Snow White, have provided a comfortable cushion.

Warner Bros. Sneaks into Second

Much more surprisingly, however, it looks like Warner Bros is set to take second place. They are currently sitting on a very comfortable $906.4M across 8 releases. They still have F1 and Weapons set for upcoming release, as well as the eagerly anticipated Superman reboot, which should be enough alone to push them over the $1B mark before Labor Day. They also can claim the title of the year’s top-performing movie in A Minecraft Movie, which has yet to be unseated from its $423.8M North American and $953.4M No. 1 spot.

Overall, there are only 5 studios who have posted gains on the same timeframe in 2024- Disney, Warner Bros, Paramount, A24, and Angel Studios. For Disney, that’s a 222% increase, driven mostly by having more films on the release slate than last year. Warner Bros. is up 29%, Paramount 5%, A24 13% despite its recent lackluster openings, and Angel Studios at 232%. Currently, however, it looks like Universal and Focus will take the No. 3 spot, with a pretty successful opening for How to Train Your Dragon alongside some other successful titles and the carryover success of Focus’ Nosferatu.

No matter who manages to cross the $1B threshold, however, we’re seeing a strong and pretty successful 2025 box office, and that’s something we all can celebrate.
