Your Oscar Race Round-Up: What’s Looking the Hottest?
Award season is
progressing full speed ahead, with the buildup to this year’s Oscar ceremony.
While it’s always possible for a new upset to derail the awards train, Blake
& Wang P.A. review entertainment lawyer Los Angeles in USA, Brandon Blake,
looks at the films that have had success so far, and how we might see the
converted golden statues awarded this March.
The Last Stretch for
Contenders
With the formal awards
show set for 16 March this year, we’ve seen a few unexpected contenders issue
their own challenge to what looked like a very solid Best Picture lineup late
last year.
One to watch: Blue
Moon. From the Sony stable, this film has picked up a lot of positive word
of mouth, and a surprise nomination that once seemed well out of reach should
now be considered.
Of course, we have to
consider the obvious titles, including Wicked: For Good and Avatar:
Fire and Ash, alongside Hamnet, Sinners, Frankenstein, Train
Dreams, and Sentimental Value, which could break out of the
international category for a Best Picture run. One Battle After Another
is also looking like a strong contender. However, it might also be worth
watching F1, which has had two Critics' Choice Award wins.
Potential Choices
Returning to the latest
screen version of Frankenstein, it’s likely to earn a Supporting Actor
nomination for Jacob Elordi, especially after a Critics' Choice win. As it
stands, we’re likely to again see Hamnet, Sentimental Value, and One
Battle After Another score nominations, with Sinners also a likely
candidate, and Train Dreams (for William H. Macy) and Wicked: For
Good likely to get a nod, too.
They’re also likely to
dominate the Best Actor and Actress categories. Here, however, If I Had Legs
I’d Kick You, Die, My Love, and Song Sung Blue could all raise their heads
on the actress side, while Mary Supreme and The Secret Agent, as
well as Bugonia, could make for some surprise Actor nominations.
As always with the
Oscars, the Director category is likely to echo the Best Picture selections,
although some believe both Ryan Coogler (Sinners) and Jafar Panahi (It
Was Just an Accident) may well add some excitement.
With the first voting
rounds set to start next Monday, we’ll soon have some clarity, but for now,
these are all films to keep on your radar ahead of the Oscars.
