A24 Sees a Great Second Weekend for You Can See Everything
Audiences have spoken: You Can See Everything is a hot property for A24. Bringing in a remarkable second-weekend total for what is, essentially, a drama-packed documentary, they certainly have reason to celebrate, as Blake & Wang P.A. a seasoned entertainment attorney in Los Angeles USA, Brandon Blake, is here to share.
Impressive Weekend
You Can See Everything brought in $19.5M over its second weekend, a 25% uptick from its $15.6 first weekend. That alone is quite a rarity, although admittedly the film also expanded the number of screens it was playing on, moving from 855 screens to 2,655 theaters.
However, we are talking about a 3-hour documentary playing at the general box office. For that, A24 can likely thank some snappy marketing, including building “fear of missing out” among audiences by keeping the film tightly under wraps, encouraging ticket sales. Let’s also not forget that the film cost just $7M to make.
Non-Fiction Success
With a total gross now over $45M, this may shape into one of the most successful non-fiction film releases to date, whether or not it makes it to Fahrenheit 9/11’s staggering $222M heights. It has certainly toppled Melania, which was this year’s previous record holder.
The speculation now is whether it will bring You Can See Everything into contention for the Oscars. Theoretically, we could even see You Can See Everything become the first documentary to receive a nomination in the Best Picture Category.
Regardless, however, this will definitely be one of A24’s biggest hits so far, on top of what has been an excellent box office year for the company, with Backrooms becoming the biggest blockbuster in its history to date, alongside other victories with The Drama and Primetime. It’s also solid proof that box office audiences will respond to things other than Marvel tentpoles and endless sequels and prequels, a lesson we all love to see delivered.
