Avatar Continues its Box Office Streak

With two new releases performing as anticipated, and Avatar still powering up numbers, it’s another good January weekend for the box office. Here’s a look at the last weekend’s box office, from Brandon Blake, USA based entertainment attorney Los Angeles with Blake & Wang P.A.

Winning Streak

Avatar: Fire and Ash may bring no surprises with its success, but there’s certainly plenty of victory in its current numbers. Ending the January box office in No. 1 for the fourth weekend in a row, it managed to bring in $21.3M over 3,700 screens. That brings its total cume to date to $342.6M in the US. It’s a little behind the first 2 films, but given the film made it to the coveted $1B mark in just three weekends, that’s not a lot to worry about. It is anticipated that the film will close north of the $1.23B mark.

Other Releases

In the second-place slot for the weekend, we have Primate, which took $11.3M in ticket sales over the weekend. With only a $20M budget, Paramount will no doubt be happy. Behind it, we have Lionsgate’s The Housemaid, with $11.2M in ticket sales. The film’s cume has almost reached the $100M mark for North America, and has $150M globally.

Zootopia 2 continues a strong showing in fourth place. And, let’s be honest, it’s going to be tough to beat the film’s $1.65B in takings. It’s the top-grossing film even for Disney Animations, and that’s saying something.

Rounding out the top 5 slots, there is a new entrant, Greenland 2. With several other good hold-overs plumping up the top 10, it’s another strong weekend to add some charm to the early-year box office. With a little luck, it’s a great sign of where the rest of the year could be heading for theatrical releases.
